This blog is about growing what you eat, and eating what you grow. It’s about my garden, and what I do in my kitchen, and from time to time, probably unrelated thoughts.
I want to use it to keep track of what I’m doing in the garden and what the garden is doing day by day. I also want to use it to connect with other gardeners, especially those in the Pacific Northwest.
I should mention that when I speak of the garden, I really mean the vegetable garden, orchard and various berry patches. I’m not much into flowers anymore, though I do have a few floral oases around the farm.
So if you want to learn about growing and making your own food, this is the place (well, maybe not the place, but one place, anyway). I’ll probably talk about making other things not involving produce from time to time, like cheese and bread and such, hope you don’t mind.
I am now offering cooking classes in Creswell, Oregon. Though I have no formal chef training, I do have food service and restaurant experience, as well as a degree in food science. I’m also a Master Food Preserver.

You sound amazing! What’s a Master Food Preserver, by the way?
A Master Food Preserver has gone through the training program put on through some county Extension Service offices. We have about 45 hours of study covering food safety and proper techniques for preserving food. Then we give at least 40 hours of volunteer time going out into the community to teach others. It’s a great program, with great people! Check out your state’s extension service and see it there’s one in your area.
